Doddie Weir: A Legacy of Strength, Courage and Compassion

Doddie Weir’s remarkable rugby career is a testament to his talent, commitment and athleticism. With 61 caps for Scotland, a successful British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa in 1997, and championships won with both Melrose RFC and Newcastle Falcons, Doddie firmly established himself as one of the game’s great lock forwards.

However, it is in the face of his greatest challenge—Motor Neurone Disease (MND)—that Doddie has truly shown the strength and courage that defined his career. In June 2017, Doddie revealed he had been diagnosed with MND, a devastating and incurable disease. But instead of retreating from this challenge, Doddie turned his focus to helping others affected by MND and funding critical research into the disease. In November 2017, Doddie and his Trustees launched the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation (MNDF).

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation: A Vision for a World Free of MND

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was founded with a clear and simple vision: a world free of Motor Neurone Disease. The foundation is dedicated to raising vital funds to:

  • Support research into the causes of MND and the search for potential cures.
  • Improve the lives of those living with MND and their families.
  • Provide grants to organisations such as MND Scotland and the MND Association, to support individuals and families affected by MND.

Through funding essential research and providing support, the foundation is making a real difference in the fight against this devastating disease.

Doddie’s Tartan: A Symbol of Support

To help raise awareness and funds for the foundation, a special tartan was created in honour of Doddie. Designed by The Scotland Shop, the tartan features the iconic blue and white colours of Scotland, alongside the black and yellow colours of Doddie’s beloved Borders club, Melrose RFC.

Halbro Sportswear worked closely with MNDF to ensure a perfect match of this tartan across the official clothing range, bringing Doddie’s vision to life.

Doddie Leisure Range: Wear Your Support

In 2021, the Doddie Leisure Range was launched—an exclusive clothing line that combines comfort, style and a strong message of support for those affected by MND. Designed in Doddie’s favourite navy, each piece features the iconic Doddie embroidery and a discreet MNDF logo.

The range includes a variety of garments, ideal for both leisure and workouts. From cosy gilets to classic t-shirts, every item allows you to show your support while contributing to a great cause.
