He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career, represented the British and Irish Lions on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997, and won championships with his two club sides, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons. A talented, committed and athletic lock forward, Doddie faced his biggest challenge with great strength and courage.

In June 2017, the Scot revealed he was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. From the outset, Doddie was driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease. In November 2017, Doddie and his Trustees launched the registered charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation (MNDF) vision is simple. A World Free of MND.

MNDF is committed to raising funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neuron Disease and investigate potential cures. Furthermore, help improve the lives of those affected by Motor Neuron Disease. We help to fund grants, giving considerable sums to our friends at MND Association and MND Scotland to administer to individuals and families living with MND.

Doddie’5 personal tartan was designed by the Scotland Shop, specifically to support MNDF. The blue and white within the tartan represent the colours of Scotland, and the black and yellow are the colours of Doddie’s Borders club, Melrose RFC.

Halbro Sportswear worked closely with MNDF to achieve a faithful match of the tartan across the MNDF clothing range.

The Doddie leisure range was launched in 2021 – famous throughout the world as Doddie and for his unbelievable drive to raise awareness and funds for MND we thought it was time he had his own clothing range to supplement the popular MNDF range.

In his favourite navy of course with Doddie embroidered and features a discreet MNDF logo. A range of clothing for leisure or working out from gilets to t-shirts. All profits to the My Name Doddie Foundation.
